I recently acquired an old Pace Sidetalk 1000B 23 channel AM/SSB base from a friend. ![]() pace sidetalk 1p000b base station original owners manual with schematic diagram, parts list and parts location diagram. Pace Sidetalk 1000M SPECIFICATIONS GENERAL Type: Citizen band transceiver Frequency range: 26.965-27. I cleaned it up, did a tuneup on it, and lined up all the crystals so they are on frequency, for the most part (this radio goes up to 27.605). rest of pages look good with normal wear for age. I didn't really see any board number anywhere on it, but if I can locate a board number, I'll post it here on this thread. The trouble is that on AM, when receiving a strong close range signal, the meter shows only about 3-4 "S" units. 13-862 & 13-862B, Pace Sidetalk 1000M Uniden Pro Series Owners Manuals. 497.5,This item is for a rare PACE SideTalk 1000M 23 chanel mobile CB Radio like used in the movie Smokey and The Bandit. 'Sidetalk CB 1000B' Hopefully it will work ok for you as most radios at that age have some sort of filter capacitor problems. On SSB, the meter reads as it should, with audio clear and loud. The Upper Side Band (USB) and Lower Side Band (LSB) channels are mostly used on channel 36, 37, mostly 38, 39 and 40, now a days. I did a receive alignment, but didn't really change anything for the meter movement on AM. Might there be a component that could be bad in the meter circuit on AM that I am overlooking? I love using this old radio, it's a nice clean vintage unit, and it talks quite nicely. Untitled Document Conversion of SSB CB Radios to 10 Meter QRP OperationĮarly in 2009 I posted an inquiry on the QRP-L Reflector about any and all that may have converted SSB CB Radios to 10 Meters. The only rub is that the "S" meter reading is very "stingy" on AM. I received many helpful inputs and suggestions. After digesting those inputs I chose to look at the 23 Channel units since many of these radios use Crystal Synthesizers. With crystals that raised the possibly to utilize commonly available inexpensive Computer Crystals to move the frequency to 10 Meters. ![]() The typical crystal synthesizers uses two banks of crystals arranged in a bank of four and bank of six arrays. Coils T305, T306, and T307 are the only ones which are common to AM. by Rick » Sunday 29th Jun 2008, 8:33 The AM signal meter pre-set is R363 try adjusting, if this is not the fault check CR315, CR316, C332, and C343. The bandswitch is arranged so that the first crystal in the bank of six is mixed with the four crystals in succession so that at initiation that would give channels 1 to 4. Re: Pace Sidetalk 1000B Little meter movement on AM. Then the second crystal in the bank of six is mixed in succession with the four crystals to give channels 5 to 8. Interestingly the first three crystals in the bank of four are separated by 10 kHz but the last channel is 20 kHz. Typical frequencies for the banks of crystals were in the 11 MHz range for the bank of six and in the 7 to 8 MHz range for the bank of four. One popular SSB generation scheme used by many manufacturers was to employ a 7.8 MHz Crystal Filter and the carrier frequency was generated at 7.8025 MHz which typically gives an Lower Sideband output when used in an additive mixer stage. To switch between USB and LSB, in lieu of using two crystals, injection Frequencies 7.8025 MHz above and below the desired operating frequency are generated. Thus the mixing process in receive and transmit was shifted to LSB or USB depending on whether the Local Oscillator was above or below the Intermediate Frequency (IF). ![]() Typically in the CB mode for USB a mixing frequency at 34 MHz was used and for LSB and AM 19 MHz was used as the Local Oscillator.
